Not since the late seventies and early eighties have we seen many artists produce music worthy of being called Jesus Music - Kim Walker-Smith, Christ Quilala, and Melissa How have done it. It's fresh it's powerful and for someone who was part of the original Jesus Movement - it's totally exciting to see and hear! Just get it!

Consumed - Jesus Culture
We used to review all albums when they came out. As Jesus music evolved into 'Christian Music' we pulled back as all we seemed to be greeted with, except for a few highlights, was a wall of bland elevator music which emanated from three or four places in the world, using what seemed to be the same studios and producers who were experts in delivering homogenized 'sounds', with lyrics that at best were very forgettable and certainly nothing you would want to equate to the 'Creator' of the Universe.
Consumed sat on my desk for a couple of weeks staring back at me almost daring me to listen. I had been told that this is the new Jesus Movement - How many times have I heard THAT over the years? Finally I did! OMG! Finally someone has gone outside the box and created something worth listening to that makes you want to raise your hands rather than wash them to remove any trace of what you just heard and touched.
Consumed consists of a mixture of worship songs by Kim Walker-Smith, Christ Quilala, and Melissa How. With a strong influence from U2, Arcade Fire and others this album and DVD literally consume you. I deliberately would not single out any particular track as the whole package is brilliant, including Keith Green's "Oh Lord You're Beautiful" - and then I just did single out a track!
Finally the jump has been made from the Jesus Movement Music back to Jesus Movement Music. These guys have picked up from where Barry McGuire, Chuck Girard, Keith Green and the Larry Norman left off after the record companies went marching on towards anyone and anything they could market and 'ship units'.
The Love Song Package
Fold out from Early Years CD
Sample Tracks to give you an idea just how good it is.
Changes - Early Demo
Changes - Fished song
Changes - Living Room Tapes
Changes - Village Recordings Demo
Since I opened up the Door - Living Room
Drum Solo - Feel the Love
Psalm 5 - Feel the Love
The Cossack Song - Feel the Love
The early demos give you a great insight into this part of bands progress - from a living room to a studio to the fished song. Yes the 8 minute drum solo is there along with the classic "Psalm 5" and of course the all out rocky "Cossack Song".
Residents outside the USA - We can get the box set for you for approximately USD $95 includes postage.
(Single orders from the Love Song web site are USD $140+)
In the begriming there was larry Norman, Barry McGuire, Randy Mathews and Love Song. The Love Song CD's have surfaced in various forms over the years some released officially some as bootlegs.
When the live CD was released the entire groundbreaking drum solo by John Mehler was left off. Like why bother buying it? Again record execs making dollar decisions because they didn't want to have to press two CD's. What fan back then didn't get to the drum solo and crank it up for the next ten minutes to let the entire neighborhood Jesus was here!
Thankfully, commonsense has prevailed by the way of Chuck Smith who bought the record company back and commissioned work to begin on the re mastering and repackaging.
Bringing the original albums back to their pristine state and then adding an 80 page booklet a DVD of an early concert from '73 (thought to have been lost) and then a special edition CD of early recordings (tape recorder going in their living room as they sat around and played and early demos) this package is an all time must have for any Jesus music fan.
Oh course there are those they say Love Song never got to the rock n Roll level of Larry Norman or Barry McGuire, however many of their songs were covered by Jesus Bands right around the world.
There are however a couple of criticisms. While the box set is totally fab it would have just 'finished it off had been embossed to really give it that leather book feel. The other thing is that the track listing on the Feel the Love Album are not correct.
What I really love about this package is that we get the crispness of the voices and it's as though we've gone back to the future.
Love Song never sounded this good and yes we may miss the pops and crackles this package is worth buying just for the drum solo!
No self respecting Jesus Freak would be without this package!

Your Love Never Fails
Again another album from Jesus Culture. The phenomenon continues. Great songs, great arrangements, and intelligent lyrics.
The title track kicks off and you're instantly there in the crowd . It's catchy and stays with you long after you've put the CD away.
Kim Walker takes on the next song Sing My Love and draws you further into the experience. This is really ridiculous as an original Jesus Freak and baby Boomer I find myself being totally taken in by Jesus Culture.
Mellisa How reminds me a littleof Angus and Julia Stone. I Exalt Thee, is not what you'd expect on here but it's the classic song we all know with a modern kick.
I think what grabs you is the sincerity and innocence of Chris, Kim and Mellisa that comes over. You can can feel the passion and you just instantly join in to an amazing worship experience.
Just pure honest worship music. Just like it used to be before the 'marketeers' got involved!

Of all the Jesus Culture Albums we've so far reviewed this would be our pic.
We Cry Out
So, we'd like to share with you how great this album is and provide a video clip of the song "We Cry Out", however Sony Music have this policy of restricting Sony music from being played on certain web sites and on You Tube.
How in God's name did Jesus Culture get involved with such a dumb company? Somebody write and tell us! Is this the beginning of the end of Jesus Culture music? This is exactly what happened back in the late 70's when major record companies got involved. Creativity was killed in the name of making a quick buck!
This has to be a glitch - at You Tube. I do not understand record companies that don't want people to hear their artists music. Someone tell em this is the 21C!
Besides all that this CD is great, it's just great - it'll put a smile on your face and turn your heart to worship! These guys have just got it together, and to watch Kim sing Your Love Never Fails you just melt!

Barry McGuire - Pilgrim
Pilgrim was originally released in the mid 90's and never went into general distribution. Recently Barry dusted off the files added three songs and new art work to more reflect the Pilgrim theme. I love the steering wheel CD.
The great thing about Barry is that you know he's not going to record anything he himself does not believe. So you're not going to hear soppy love songs.
Just for the packaging this album is fun. Pilgrim as you would imagine is semi biographical.
Classic Barry songs like "What Would You Give To The King", "I Got Time" and then his bio song "Out of L.A." The three new tracks include recent recording "Seeds of Love featuring everyone from Andrae Crounch, 2nd Chapter to Randy Mathews singing in the background. Cosmic Cowboy is classic barry and that unmistakable 12 string guitar and ending with one of his most requested songs when doing a church concert, "God Like the Wind".
